Andrew and Sue Marshall moved to the Lake District in 1997 with their 4 young sons as Andrew was working as a Shoe Agent for the North of England and Scotland. The shoe trade has been Andrews' life for over 40 years. His family has been in the shoe trade since 1904 and now one of his sons is carrying on the tradition working as an Agent.
On a day out in the winter of 2004, Andrew and Sue Marshall spotted a tiny shop that was available to rent, decided to take it and then opened in April 2005.
Strolling 4 Shoes first opened its doors in the busy market town of Keswick in the Lake District attracting a hoard of shoe hungry Cumbrian customers! The reception that they received encouraged them to have another day out and they opened another branch in Penrith.
In 2008 they opened a branch in Cockermouth which then fell victim to the 2009 floods and was completely devastated. Not to be put off, Andrew and Sue came back fighting and opened their flag ship store on the corner of Main Street, Cockermouth in 2010. Not only has this branch become a destination shoe shop, it has also received two Highly Commended ratings from National Footwear Awards and played it's part in Cockermouth receiving international recognition for its architectural regeneration after the flood. Unfortunately this shop was hit, again, by the floods in December 2015. But it's back open and full of fabulous shoes and boots!
Strolling 4 Shoes now just has stores in Penrith and Cockermouth and the website.
Andrew and Sue's vision was, and continues to be, to offer Casual, Colourful and Comfortable shoes. The wide and varied range of styles are sourced from all over Europe.
If you're in town please call in, where you will receive a warm and friendly welcome from our dedicated staff who are ready to help you choose the right shoes for you
